Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki

Osaka is the great industrial city made famous for it’s love of food. There is hardly a city corner where you won’t find a food vendor of one type or another. The two main staples of street vendor food is okonomiyaki and takoyaki, both taken almost as seriously as the mighty Hanshin Tigers baseball team.

Okonomiyaki comes in a variety of styles but is basically a savoury pancake cooked on a flat grill. There is a regular publication dedicated to okonomiyaki as well as a specialist food hall called Okonomiyaki Stadium.

Takoyaki are the famous octopus balls (who’d have thought?) found almost everywhere you look. Impromptu stalls complete with beer tents serve varieties of these tasty snacks so fresh they are too hot to handle.

Join us as we demonstrate how easy it is create these delicious and healthy snacks.

Available on the day will be recipe handouts, Osaka essentials and takoyaki pans for sale. Of course our full range of knives, Japanese food, kitchenware and hampers will also be available for those last minute Christmas gifts.
