Tessen - Iron Fan
The Tessen is one of the less conspicuous weapons of the Samurai. There were many times when a Samurai would need to leave their Daisho (Swords) with an attendant especially in the case of visiting one of a higher rank, so instead of being totally vulnerable they developed weapons that would disguise themselves as everyday items.
This Tessen is designed on a simple Sensu (fan) and in the days of the Samurai would have been a necessary item to carry for the purpose of etiquette. Fans were very popular with the higher classes since their inception in Kyoto in about 670 AD.
Today the Tessen makes a beautiful display piece as well as a very practical item in warmer weather.
Comes in paper gift box with a purple fabric fan sheath.
