Description

This is the longest version of the Ko-yanagi from Chroma Haiku. It was born to slice. If slicing were an art form then artists from around the world would be desperate to get their hands on this knife. It has a thin blade that tapers from bolster to tip which enhances the feel of slicing. Okay, maybe we are a little too emotionally involved with this knife, but you get the picture. A high performance blade with a rustic finish characteristic of black forged knives.

 

Chroma Haiku Kurouchi Tosa - Black Forged Series

These knives are the "real deal”.

Hand forged knives from Tosa, in Kochi prefecture, southern Japan. Unlike Seki or other recognized knifemaking districts whose history lies in the making of swords, Tosa has a long history of supplying blades to the forestry industry. In the early Edo period - 1600’s, farming and forestry were of great importance to the development of Japan. It was during this time that the blacksmiths of Tosa became renowned for their expertise in hand forging blades of great strength and edge retention. Although some automation has been introduced in the form of machine hammers, Tosa knives are still made in the same way as they have been for the past 400 years, by a highly skilled blacksmith using a coal furnace.

The Haiku Kurouchi Series knives from Tosa feature a core made from a Yasuki blue No.2 carbon steel hagane supported with softer iron jigane to provide flexibility. The blades are honed to a razor's edge, fitted with a comfortable black oval wooden handle and are finished with a stainless steel bolster branded with the Chroma Haiku falcon.

Please note:
- Carbon steel is not rust resistant. We highly recommend a light coat of Camelia oil for extended storage and Northman rust cleaner for removing stains.
