210mm Keijiro Doi Blue 2 Usuba

This top end 210mm usuba made for Sakai Takayuki is a masterpiece of precision. Made of Yasuki Blue 2 steel in traditional Sakai style - with a supporting layer of soft iron for strength and increased flexibility. It is a single edged vegetable knife with an octagonal handle of ebony wood and traditional black buffalo horn bolster. Mesmerising to the eye and a pure pleasure to work with.
 

Keijiro Doi

Mr Doi has two lifetime's experience in forging traditional Japanese blades. To watch him work is a surreal experience. A baseball cap holds back a shock of wild snow white hair as he controls hammer and furnace to form a 1/2" thick billet of iron into a a perfectly formed blade ready to be refined and sharpened. With precise actions Mr Doi can make a range of blades including Yanagiba, Fugubiki, Deba and Usuba, in fact over 100 different styles, barely glancing at the patterns on the wall.
