Nambu Ironware - Artisan Made Cast Iron Cookware
During the Edo period the area of Iwate Prefecture around the cities of Morioka and Mizusawa was known as Nambu.
For centuries this region has been deemed to make the best cast iron cookware in all of Japan and early pieces have been found as far back as 1100AD. Today only ironware from Morioka and Mizusawa carry the moniker "Nambu Tekki" (Nambu Ironware).
Eco-friendly Ironware
Because of the long history of cast ironware production in this region, worn or cracked pots have always been remelted to make new products. Today the recycled content of Nambu Ironware is 70% - 75%. Superior heat retention, longevity and good conductivity make Nambu Ironware a good environmental choice.
