Organic Matcha - 40g Tin

This high quality Organic Matcha is grown in the shade for 25-30 days before harvest. This increases the beneficial antioxidants and creates a more mellow taste without harsh bitterness. After harvest the leaves are steamed, dried and stone ground to a fine vibrant green powder.

Tasting notes

An unmistakeable green tea aroma with a smooth and mellow palate. If you carefully follow the brewing instructions there will be no hint of bitterness.

Brewing notes

Matcha is a fine powder and is brewed differently to other tea. Unlike other tea you consume the whole leaf (powder) that is suspended in the water.

To create a rich and foamy bowl of Matcha you will need to first sieve the powder into the tea bowl to remove any lumps. This will also make it less bitter. As well as a tea bowl you will need a small bamboo whisk known as a Chasen.

You can enjoy traditional Matcha two ways: Usucha is a thinner style of Matcha enjoyed on a daily basis by most people. Koicha is the thick and strong style enjoyed during the tea ceremony. Either way you should experiment with the amount of tea and water you prefer.

To Make Usucha

  • Preheat Chawan (tea bowl) with a little hot water and discard
  • Sieve 1 teaspoon of Matcha into a Chawan
  • Pour over 70-80ml of water at 80°C
  • Use Chasen to whisk until frothy

To Make Koicha

  • Preheat Chawan (tea bowl) with a little hot water and discard
  • Sieve 2 teaspoons of Matcha into a Chawan
  • Pour over 45-55ml of water at 80°C
  • Use Chasen to whisk until well mixed, it may not get as frothy as Usucha
