About Saji Uchihamono

Takeshi Saji is more than a master blacksmith. He's one of the founding legends of Japanese custom knife making. The third generation of the Saji Uchihamono workshop in Echizen, Saji-san helped transform an age-old blacksmithing tradition into something altogether more ambitious. At a time when Japanese knives were largely defined by function and tradition, he dared to think differently. Bold designs, outrageous Damascus finishes and an almost rebellious approach to craftsmanship. He wasn't simply making knives; he was creating an entirely new direction for Japanese cutlery, inspiring a generation of makers who followed. In an industry full of talented blacksmiths, Saji-san is one of the originals. A genuine trailblazer whose influence can be seen across the industry today.

The baton has passed to Kazuo Nomura, and it's difficult to imagine better hands. Saji-san's son-in-law, Nomura is no mere successor riding on the family name. He's an exceptionally talented blacksmith in his own right, having spent decades learning alongside one of the greats while forging a reputation of his own. He has the skills, experience and bloody-minded dedication to keep the Saji workshop at the top of its game. This isn't simply a legacy being preserved; it's a new generation taking the reins.
