FAQs

How do I light binchotan?

Because of the density of authentic binchotan charcoal you need to light it on an open flame for about 25 minutes before transfering to the hibachi grill.

What tools do I need to light the charcoal?

You will need to buy a "charcoal chimney" or "fire starter" such as premium charcoal chimney. There are also some cheap cylindrical options at your local hardware store.

How do I avoid the binchotan cracking or spitting?

Dry out the charcoal first by putting on low heat for 10 minutes.

We also recommend you put a metal grill net on top of the charcoal chimney to catch any volatile charcoal bits from randomly flying in the air.
