400/1000 grit from Naniwa

This twin-sided bench stone from Naniwa makes an excellent introduction to the world of knife sharpening. The coarse 400 grit side can be used to re-bevel a blunt knife whilst the 1000 grit refines the bevel to a decent cutting edge. This stone has soft abrasive with a smooth cutting action.

Naniwa Advance Sharpening Stones

Previously known as Super Stones, this series of sharpening stones from Naniwa are made from the same high quality grit as the PRO series but made from a softer resin with slightly less grit for those on a budget.

These knife sharpening stones are made from tightly packed resin bonded grit and have the following advantages:

  • No pre-soaking required. Simply splash some water on the surface and start sharpening
  • Faster cutting than regular bench stones
  • Longer lasting - about twice as long as regular knife sharpening stones
  • Much less mess than “cement” type bench stones

The Naniwa Advance series ranges from 220 to 12000 grit and are all made via the same resin bonded process to give a consistent “feel” through the sharpening process.

N.B. Please do not soak this stone for long periods as it will degrade the stone. Also these stones have no plastic base like our previous series but you can purchase a sturdy rubber base here
