Profile

5000 grit Shiageto from Naniwa

Finishing stone to polish and sharpen the bevel further. Recommended for use after the 3000 grit. Enthusiasts can continue to finer stones if desired. Soft abrasive with a smooth cutting action.

Double-Thick Sharpening Stones

Naniwa has introduced a 1cm shorter thinner Advance sharpening stone (not on our website) so to differentiate the original 2cm thick Advance Superstone whetstones we have added the word "Double-Thick".

25+ years of sharpening experience has taught us that a 20mm stone lasts about 3 times longer than a 10mm stone. Stones wear down with use and when they get down to about 5mm thick they have a high risk of cracking either through pressure or the soak/dry cycle. This leaves 20mm stones with 15mm of usable thickness – 3 times more than 10mm stones.

In summary, if it's in your budget we highly recommend the 20mm thick sharpening stones.

Naniwa Advance - Super Stones

This series of sharpening stones from Naniwa are made from the same high quality grit as the Naniwa PRO series but made from a softer resin with slightly less grit for those on a budget.

These stones are made from tightly packed resin bonded grit and have the following advantages:

  • No pre soaking required - simply splash some water on the surface and start sharpening
  • Faster cutting than regular stones
  • Longer lasting - about twice as long as regular stones
  • Much less mess than “cement” type stones

The Naniwa Advance Sharpening Stones ranges from 220 to 12000 grit and are all made via the same resin bonded process to give a consistent “feel” through the sharpening process

N.B. These stones do not have a plastic bases like our previous ranges. You can purchase a sturdy rubber base here

Dimensions:

210mm (L) x 70mm (W) x 20mm (H) - stone dimension
