1000 grit Nakato from Naniwa

The second step in the sharpening process is with nakato or middle stone. We highly recommend this 1000 grit sharpening stone due to its fast cutting and durability.

Naniwa Chocera PRO Series

The Chocera PRO stones from Naniwa are a true upgrade from the Naniwa Super Stone sharpening series. The Naniwa Super Stones are an excellent product and in terms of quality are superior to 90% of other stones on the market, but the Chocera PRO will satisfy even the fussiest sharpener.

The Chocera PRO range are made from magnesium resin and have a higher grit to filler ratio than the Naniwa Super Stones which leads to higher performance and excellent wear resistance.

For those familiar with CHOSERA, the Chocera PRO range has been developed as a more advanced stone with more focus on ensuring a consistent grid pattern of abrasive grit throughout the stone and more consistent hardness throughout the whole stone, resulting in superior sharpening results over the Chosera. + the environmentally sustainable packaging (no CHOSERA plastic base or plastic packaging) is a great move by Naniwa as the world moves away from plastics.

PRO differ from Super Stones in the following:

  • Require a light soaking (approx 5 minutes)
  • 30% faster cutting than the Naniwa Super Stones
  • Even longer lasting, at least 2x longer
  • Excellent performance even on the hardest steels

The Naniwa Chocera PRO sharpening stones range from 400 to 10,000 grit and are all made via the same resin bonded process to give a consistent “feel” through the sharpening process.

N.B. Please do not soak this stone for long periods as it will degrade the stone. Also these stones have no plastic base like our previous series but you can purchase a sturdy rubber base here
