1000 grit Nakato

Bigger isn't always better but there is something very satisfying sharpening on a 6cm thick #1000 grit Nakato that is the considered the standard size in old Sakai.

Used as the second step in the sharpening process or to refine the bevel. Can also be used for minor repair work. Soft abrasive with a smooth cutting action.

This series of sharpening stones from Naniwa are certified by the Sakai Knife Commerce & Industry Cooperative.

The 1000 grit 'big red brick' is made from a type of ceramic that is long lasting with a smooth cutting action.

  • Please pre-soak for about 10 minutes before use until the bubbles stop rising

Care Instructions

Sharpening Stones – SOAKING TYPE

Do not drop as the stone will crack.

Do not leave under water for long periods of time as the stone will deteriorate and break apart.

Soak just prior to use until the stone is waterlogged and the bubbles stop rising.

Rinse and leave to dry after use.

Do not store unless fully dry.

Flatten your stone regularly using a stone flattener for consistent results.
